About Me
I’m Kate, an Adelaide artist who spent almost a decade in Birmingham, England (otherwise known as Brum). My Dad was from Birmingham, which originally brought me there, I instantly felt a strong connection to the city and I fell in love with the life I built there. People would often ask me ‘Why Birmingham?’ so I used illustration to connect with the city and express all that I loved about it. It was there that I established myself as a visual artist, exhibiting and selling my work.
In December 2023 I felt like it was time to return home to Adelaide. This was a massive decision and has my heart split in two, not in the way that it’s broken, just that half is here in Adelaide and half is there in Birmingham.
Seeing the world has sparked a real appreciation of how wonderful South Australia is and I have been re-exploring my new connection with my home town as a visual artist. I have enjoyed playing tourist in Adelaide, illustrating the locations I missed, those that spark fond memories and even new places which have popped up in the time I was away.
My aim is for my work to be a celebration of my two homes and the connection I share with both. Love from a distance is still love and I am lucky enough to call two cities home.
